Pictured above is my favorite officemate of 14 years and counting. She is accessorized by a kitchen floor that needs to be swept and mopped along with a computer backpack that now needs de-furred. Hey folks, this is real life over here.
May is Mental Health month which is a hoot because May is one of the MOST stressful times of year for me. It is a moment when ALL my very different worlds collide for about a 4-5 week period. It is a real struggle to keep all the balls in the air and somewhere in there I'm supposed to be a good mom, wife and friend. Unless you just want a list of responsibilities, I'll spare you the details. Why? We are all crazy busy and stressed at times, and sometimes drowning, in our own ways so I know you can relate from your own perspective. This life isn't a contest about who is the most stressed because our challenges are all relative to our personal situations, a blog post for another day.
You would think that each year would get a little easier, but the truth is, there are always new challenges to overcome, so it really doesn't. However, what makes these stressful times more "manageable" is that the number of tools in my mental toolbox, of how I face those challenges, have increased. The price of tools isn't free. Sometimes they've come through battling through some very tough times. Maybe they've been gifted by the wisdom of a friend, trusted mentor or counselor. Trial and error also can teach you the right tool for the job along with a whole host of other experiences.
I hope this offers some comfort, to those also juggling a lot of balls, that you aren't alone in the battle. While heavy stress and pressure can be very difficult at the moment, don't forget to use the tools you've already acquired for the job. If you find you don't have the right tool, don't hesitate to reach out to a trusted friend or health care provider. You are so important and so needed in this world. You need not go it alone!
